4 September, 2020: Local Government elections are heating up with local Stonnington resident of more than 20 years, Stacey Moran, putting her hat in the ring. The serial entrepreneur who is known in the local community for styling properties for sale and display, has made the decision to be a Candidate for the upcoming Stonnington City Council elections due to the lack of business focus on the agenda.
“My husband’s family was well-known in furniture retail in the area, and I’ve started two businesses, which are very focused on talking and engaging with the community in Mini Party People and Moran Property Styling,” said Stacey Moran.
“With the impact of COVID and particularly the latest round of announcements that are crippling businesses, it is more pertinent than ever to have younger representatives of business on Council that is pro-business.”
“There is a kaleidoscope of issues that businesses are facing and any reprieve is greatly needed. Cuts in rates and fees is just the start!”
The main issues that Moran’s campaign targets include the need for rate reductions, cutting of unnecessary expenditure, updating of existing parks and a focus on getting Chapel Street back to its former glory.
“Spending $40 million on a precinct that no-one is using doesn’t make sense to me when rates are so high and businesses are doing it tough. I think the local voters would prefer to put that money back in their pockets and on cleaning up areas that affect families. I certainly do.”
“Chapel Street was once a bustling tourist attraction bringing people from all over the country to our shops. It’s now a ghost town. We can do more and should be doing more.”
The need for fresh candidates on Council is pertinent to ensuring the focus on the community is relevant to all stages of life.
